Practice and Pitfalls before the ECtHR
What are the pitfalls to avoid when bringing a case before the European Court of Human Rights?
Whether you already have a track record of bringing cases to Strasbourg, or are just beginning, this event will bring together two practitioners with hands-on experience, facilitated by Sir Tim Eicke KC, former UK judge on the European Court of Human Rights.
Rachael Kondak, former family law barrister from Queen Elizabeth Building (QEB), and a lawyer at the European Court of Human Rights since 2009, will take a look at how to make a valid application and ensure that you have complied with the Court’s admissibility criteria.
Parosha Chandran, a barrister at One Pump Court and Professor of Practice in Modern Slavery Law at King’s College London, will draw on her extensive experience of bringing landmark trafficking cases before the Court, including M. v U.K (2008), V.C.L. and A.N. v United Kingdom (2021) , B.B. v Slovakia (2024) and T.V. v Spain (2024), to explore how to identify and frame Convention issues, build the factual and legal foundations of a case, and navigate the practical and strategic challenges of complex Strasbourg litigation.
